Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2019) - Non-Lethal Melée Weapons Sketches

More work from my time on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings under Vis-Dev supervisor Andy Park. Some (comparatively) loose sketches I did to explore non-lethal weapons for the Mandarin's Special Ops. The idea was to create modern high-tech interpretations of traditional Chinese weapons. I had a lot of fun researching the actual weapons, and watching videos of adepts training with them. The soldier costume design referenced is from the inimitable Jana Schirmer.

This was the one picked, and is featured heavily in the film.

A shot from the movie. Always nice when a design makes it to the screen virtually untouched.

A quick sketch to illustrate how the extension would be used in combat.
