Avengers (2010) - Chitauri Soldier Concepts

A couple of attempts at designing the Chitauri for Avengers, based on an aesthetic approach established by the incomparable Justin Sweet and Ryan Meinerding. I was trying to integrate the armor and tech into the body in an alien cyborg kind of way. With the soldier I wanted a reveal when the faceplate came off that what you thought were eyes were really an extension of the multi-hinged mouth. Not surprisingly they went with something more anthropomorphic in the movie. A fun, rare opportunity to do creature design for me!
