Tron: Ares (2023) - Ares Bike Helmet Design

Ares's Bike Helmet was definitely one of the most fun things to design for Tron: Ares. By this time the spectacular new Lightcycle had already been designed by Haisu Wang, and I needed to create something that worked harmoniously with the bold light graphics and perforated trusswork structure of the bike. For this project I decided to forego 2D sketching and jump straight in to sculpting out forms in ZBrush. I presented four options as turntable animations, from which design A was selected to refine. Apart from a lot of detail refinement and some proportional tweaks, the final helmet didn't diverge much from that initial shape. I also worked on ways to integrate the shape into the silhouette of both the bike and Alan Villanueva's costume using an articulated cowl, but that will be for another post! Credit to Costume Designer Christine Bieslin Clark for her support and faith in my process, and Jose Fernando of Ironhead Studios for the masterful execution.
